Postdoc Application

Postdoctoral Application

The HI-AIPrN T32 program is now accepting applications for prospective trainees to be appointed to its 2 postdoctoral slots, with an anticipated start date of September 1, 2024.

Eligibility

  1. The applicant must be a US citizen, or non-citizen national of the United States, or must have been lawfully admitted for permanent residence. Non-citizen nationals are
generally individuals born in US affiliated Pacific Islands. Individuals on temporary student visas are not eligible for these slots.
  2. The applicant must have received a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree in computer science, information science, genomics and bioinformatics, mathematics, nutrition science or a biomedical and health research field with quantitative expertise.

The HI-AIPrN T32 training program requires dual primary-mentorship. Trainees will need to choose two primary faculty mentors in distinct disciplines: one mentor from the nutrition sciences or related biomedical domains, and a second one from advanced computational, systems or data sciences including AI/ML analytics. Please refer to the postdoctoral training program page for an overview. Candidates should demonstrate quantitative/qualitative skills applicable in biomedical research, excellent written and oral communication skills, and the ability to work independently and with collaborators. A track record of original first-author publications or conference proceedings from doctoral work is highly desirable. Trainees will be expected to focus on AI/ML-powered research on precision nutrition sciences and relevant biomedical fields, complete required HI-AIPrN courses, and participate in career and professional enrichment activities.

Postdoctoral fellows in the T32 program will be paid a 12-month stipend and allowances consistent with the NIH and University of Hawaii guidelines. Postdoctoral fellows may also apply for additional funds from the different pilot programs available at the University of Hawaii to supplement research, to travel to and present at professional conferences.

Applicants must submit documents at the link below: 1) a completed HI-AIPrN Training Grant Application Form. 2) NIH Biosketch or Curriculum Vitae; 3) a cover letter, and research statement describing the applicant’s interest, research background and experience, and potential start date; 4) the names and contact information of 2-3 professional references who will submit their letters to application portal (or email directly to ypan@hawaii.edu for non-UH references).

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Applicants who are moved beyond the first screening will be asked to submit additional information. Please direct any questions to the Program Coordinator ypan@hawaii.edu.

The University of Hawaii JABSOM and CTAHR are committed to building and maintaining a supportive community where faculty, staff, and trainees from all backgrounds and experiences are supported in their profession and social and intellectual goals.
