Program Faculty Mentors

Current program faculty mentors are established investigators mainly from the four participating graduate programs and departments (Nutritional Sciences-NS; Quantitative Health Sciences-OHS, Molecular Bioscience and Bioengineering-MBBE, UH Cancer Center-UHCC) and other units at the JABSOM, the CTAHR, and the UH system.

Selection Criteria for Faculty Mentors

The selection criteria for HI-AIPrN faculty mentors include: the quality of the research program, the programmatic focus and collaborations with other investigators/laboratories to provide a strong area emphasis in AI/ML and advanced data analytics or in Precision Nutrition Sciences and Precision Medicine and Biomedical Research, suitability as a scientist role model, and demonstrated mentorship to train doctoral students and postdoctoral fellows to become independent scientists.

Applying as a Mentor

Faculty interested in applying to join the HI-AIPrN faculty should send their CV/Biosketch, a training record, and a short description of their research interests to Dr. Deng and Dr. Novotny. Note: HI-AIPrN funding does not fully cover the costs for the trainee. It is the responsibility of the trainee’s mentor to cover costs that exceed the NIH award.
Hawaii Advanced Training Program in Artificial Intelligence for Precision Nutrition Science Research (HI-AIPrN) is supported by the National Institute of Health Office of the Director and the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases under Award Number T32DK137523 and by the UH, JABSOM, and CTAHR
